Cybersecurity is a Shared Duty, Emphasizes PM

PM Anwar Addressing the Complexity of Cyber Threats

PETALING JAYA: PM Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that tackling cyber threats requires a collaborative approach involving the government, private sector, and society as a whole. Senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah revealed that Anwar led the first National Cybersecurity Meeting on Tuesday (March 11), addressing key digital security concerns.

“With cyber threats evolving rapidly and digital networks becoming more interconnected, a holistic and well-structured cybersecurity framework is essential. Each sector—the government, private companies, and the public—has an integral role in strengthening Malaysia’s cybersecurity posture,” he added via Anwar’s Facebook page.

Progress in Cybersecurity and Upcoming Initiatives

During the meeting, officials examined the current state of Malaysia’s cybersecurity, noting a reduction in incidents from 2023 to 2024. Discussions also covered the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854), which will be bolstered through key appointments, including a national critical information infrastructure (NCII) chief and cybersecurity specialists. Tunku Nashrul also announced two major initiatives: a nationwide “Cyber Games” and a regional cybercrime summit in May 2025, co-hosted by Nacsa, the Council of Europe, and Interpol.

Enhancing Cybersecurity with Local Experts and Strengthening Religious Policies

The government is actively seeking collaboration with local cybersecurity professionals to enhance digital security using Malaysian expertise. Separately, Anwar welcomed religious scholars from Kelantan to the PMO, engaging in discussions on strengthening Islamic governance and fostering unity in addressing religious differences.
